This 1967 Jaguar 240 was sold new in England in October 1967, and around 1977 it was imported to the United States by a previous owner. The seller purchased the car in 2016 in Alabama, and it has not been started or driven since 2018 when the braking system failed. The gray-over-blue sedan is equipped with a 2.4-liter inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive as well as dual SU carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, hubcaps, front bucket seats, a push-button radio, and a heater. This right-hand-drive 240 project is now offered at no reserve with copies of a 1977 issue of The Milestone Car magazine that documents the car’s importation to the U.S. as well as a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, a service manual, a parts catalog, an owner’s manual, a tool kit, spare parts, a car cover, and Alabama registration in the name of the seller’s spouse.
The car was finished from the factory in Warwick Gray, and the seller states that one side of the body was repainted under prior ownership. Exterior equipment includes a Leaper hood ornament, a pop-up cowl vent, and chrome wraparound bumpers with overriders as well as a chrome grille, window surrounds, trim, and dual exhaust outlets. Dents are noted along the chrome above one of the windows and also on body panels where a tree branch fell on the vehicle. Rust on lower portions of the body and other imperfections are visible.
Body-color 15″ steel wheels feature hubcaps and are mounted with 205/70 Firestone FR380 whitewall tires that show manufacturing date codes from 2007. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension and a cantilevered live rear axle. The four-wheel disc brakes failed when the car was driven most recently in 2018, the seller tells us.
The cockpit features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in blue Ambla upholstery along with color-coordinated door panels. Wood veneers adorn the dashboard, door caps, and window frames. Other interior equipment includes a Motorola push-button radio, a heater, and front and rear vent windows. The seller notes that the door seals allow water to intrude into the cabin, particularly on the driver side.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, and centrally positioned auxiliary gauges displaying water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 1,350 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.4-liter XK inline-six is complemented by dual SU carburetors and finned valve covers. The engine has not been started nor has the car been driven since 2018, according to the seller.
The four-speed manual gearbox is accompanied by an overdrive unit. The transmission is said to have been rebuilt around 2010.
The vehicle was featured in the Summer 1977 edition of The Milestone Car, two copies of which are included in the sale.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was built on October 4, 1967, and was dispatched to London, England, on October 19. The document also lists the Jaguar’s factory colors and drivetrain numbers.
The vehicle is being sold on its Alabama registration, which expired in 2021 and serves as the ownership document in Alabama.
