This 1965 Jaguar S-Type is a right-hand-drive sedan that was sold new in the UK and imported to the US at some time between 1969 and 1984. It was acquired by the seller in 1998, and service in the time since has included installation of an aluminum radiator along with a replacement alternator and camshaft cover gaskets. Powered by a 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six, the car is finished in white over red leather and features burl wood interior trim, dual SU carburetors, disc brakes, and 15″ steel wheels. This S-Type is now offered with owner’s and service manuals, a parts catalog, a maintenance chart, service records, Jaguar literature, a tool kit, and a clean Arkansas title in the seller’s name.
The car was repainted in its current shade of white under previous ownership in the 1980s, and repairs to the left quarter panel to correct damage from a flat tire are said to have resulted in some color variation in the finish. Exterior details include a leaper hood ornament, Lucas driving lights, and wraparound chrome bumpers with overriders. Close-up photos showing paint chips and cracks along with damage to the right-rear door caused by an incident with the tire jack can be viewed in the gallery. The seller says that both windshield weather seals should be replaced, and that rust in the lower radiator support has been treated.
Painted 15” steel wheels wearing polished Jaguar-branded hubcaps are mounted with Coker Classic redline tires with 2016 production codes. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear units.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in red leather, which extends to the the center console and door panels. Burl wood veneers adorn the dashboard as well as the door caps and window surrounds. A Smiths Radiomobile AM/FM radio is installed in the center stack, while an older Sony cassette receiver is concealed in the glovebox. Further interior appointments include a heater, front shoulder belts, and rear lap belts. Wear is noted on the driver’s seat, and a split in its lower right bolster can be seen in photos in the gallery. The radio is noted by the seller to be inoperative due to the change from a positive to negative ground electrical system.
A two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome semi-circular horn ring is paired with a column-mounted shifter. Instrumentation includes a Smiths tachometer with a 5,500-rom redline and an inset clock accompanied by a 140-mph speedometer and centrally mounted auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level gauges as well as a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 66k miles, approximately 30k of which have been added by the seller. The turn signal switch and instrument voltage stabilizer were replaced under current ownership.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is fed by twin SU carburetors and was rated at 220 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque when new. An aluminum radiator was added under current ownership, and the alternator and camshaft cover gaskets were replaced circa 2022.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels by way of a three-speed automatic transmission.
The car is accompanied by owner’s and service manuals, a parts catalog, a maintenance chart, service records, and Jaguar literature along with a tool kit.
