Lot details
Year: 1964
Make: Daimler
Model: 420 Sovereign
Registration: LPP 889H
Chassis No: 1A3521BW
Engine No: 7A344738
Mileage: 50,000
Derived from the Jaguar Mk. X and the S-Type, the Daimler Sovereign was readily identified by the traditional Daimler fluted radiator surround and the interior was furnished with finest quality leather hide upholstery, polished figured walnut instrument panel and deep pile carpets that were sufficiently luxurious to satisfy Daimlers' established clientele.
This example would make an excellent starter classic and is presented well in green with a cream interior. The history file has a hand written log of the work undertaken and photos detailing a lot of restoration work between 1992 and 1995, along with a few invoices for mechanical parts around 2025. Fitted with an automatic gearbox and Jaguar’s famous 4.2 litre XK straight-six engine. Offered without reserve and supplied with earlier mentioned invoices and historical photos as well as a V5C registration document. Consigned by Fraser Smith
Bob's Comments: Car interior and exterior are improved from the 2022 auction. The seats look worn/dirty and wonder if they didn't come from another car. The door cards are the wrong pattern and the wood on the doors may have come from a S-type, Sovereign/420's only had a thin strip of wood along the very top of the doors except for a handful of very early cars. The engine compartment is still a let down and there isn't any word about mechanical updates/repairs. The grill looks very nice and so does the paint in the pictures.

The VIN required correcting and that is why all the original pictures say April 2025 even though they were posted in 2022. The comments are also out of order for the same reason.

Auction description:
1969 Daimler 4.2 Sovereign Auto
Lot Number: 594
Estimate: £1,000 - 1,500
V5 Present
MoT Exempt
Chassis number: 1A3521BW
Registered in September 1969, this Daimler 420 Sovereign is now being sold as a restoration project. The vendor describes it as 'running and driving' and 'a fairly solid example' but notes that the interior is in 'a sorry state'.
The odometer shows 90,303 miles and the last MoT expired in July 2017. Five former registered keepers are recorded on the V5C, which is present. The rest of the paperwork file includes a rather fragile and worn 1967 Jaguar range brochure, SC parts catalogue, some past V5Cs, a handful of invoices, and two notebooks from a past owner; one with photos of the car having work done during the early 1990s and the other recording in writing what was done during the same period.
