A gentleman's carriage... The Jaguar 420 and its Daimler Sovereign equivalent were introduced at the October 1966 London Motor Show and produced for two years as the ultimate expression of a series of "compact sporting saloons" offered by Jaguar throughout that decade, all of which shared the same wheelbase. Developed from the Jaguar S-Type, the 420 cost around £200 more than that model and effectively ended buyer interest in it, although the S-Type continued to be sold alongside the 420/Sovereign until both were supplanted by the Jaguar XJ6 late in 1968. It is interesting to note that in 1967, the Daimler Sovereign out sold the Jaguar MkII in both 3.4 and 3.8 forms. This very smart, Dark Blue 4.2 sits on Chrome Wire Wheels and has a desirable manual overdrive gearbox which is working well and makes this car a great cruiser. It has lived out in France for many years and is still showing 6,000 miles which we are told may well be true. Looking around the vehicle will perhaps give a better feel for this. We would guess that it has been restored at some point and certainly the interior looks good however the history file has yet to be found but should be available at the time of the sale. To sum up, this could be a really good value for money, sixties Daimler which would certainly get you noticed.
