Description Daimler 2.5 V8 Saloon Automatic
Registration PWT 149C
Year 1965
Colour White
Engine size 2,548 cc
Chassis No. 1A0035BW4A10505
Documents V5C;MOT October 2016; Heritage Certificate

This is the second Daimler 2.5 V8 on sale today that has travelled around the world before returning to its home shores, being sold new in Auckland, New Zealand via local Jaguar dealer P Coutts. As the accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms, it was manufactured on 9th November 1965 and despatched just a month later on 8th December.

Leaving the factory in Silver Grey with a red interior, little is known of its life in New Zealand, a registration sticker in the window indicating that it was still in New Zealand in 1989. Sometime after, it crossed the Pacific to join the other Antipodean Daimler in the sale today, sitting alongside it in the same private collection. In 2015 both Daimlers were bought by a British enthusiast who shipped them to the UK.

Since arriving back home, PWT 149C has been subjected to a thorough mechanical fettle comprising of a fuel system flush and refurb, ignition system overhaul, oil and filter service and general grease and check-over to enable successful gaining of an MOT certificate which is current until October 2016. The red leather interior is original with some damage to the driver's seat corner and new carpeting is supplied with the car although this has yet to be fitted.

Attractively priced, this Daimler V8 offers affordable entry into quality classic car ownership with the opportunity to drive, enjoy and improve.

The Heritage certificate confirms this Daimler was supplied new to P Coutts, Auckland, New Zealand. It was first registered in the UK in 2015. The vendor advises that the works undertaken during the last few years include reconditioned BW35 auto‑box, balanced prop‑shaft, new u/js, new shocks, lower ball joints, bushes, rebuilt distributor by DMG, new points, battery, coil, condenser, serviced carbs, new plugs and leads, coolant hoses and SU fuel pump. It has also been fitted with new carpets fog Ranger spotlights and weather strips. Described by the vendor as starting and driving very well with good working brakes. Would benefit from an interior refresh. It comes with Heritage Trust and Jaguar Enthusiasts Club certificates, recent MoTs including the last issued in 2017 without advisories, a few receipts, original handbooks and Hong Kong export docs. The mileage is recorded at 89,742. This car is owned by the bass player in Stiff Little Fingers, who is very kindly donating 5% of the net proceeds to the East Anglia Air Ambulance.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
