Car to be at auction 4/11
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php
Auction description:
Lot 136 - 1962 Jaguar Mk II 3.4 Manual with Overdrive
Estimate: £20,000 - £25,000
Registration Number: GAS 196
Chassis Number: 162500DN
First registered in 1962, the vendor of this stunning example of Jaguar's iconic Mk II informs us that the car has undergone a total nut and bolt rebuild to a cost of £27,000.
The body was stripped to a bare shell, any rust removed, new panels fitted, then fully painted. The underside was resealed and all box-sections were waxoil injected. All chrome-work was re-chromed or replaced.
A complete new interior in grey leather piped blue was fitted, alongside new carpets, door panels, headlining and more comfortable Jaguar XJ6 seats. All interior wood was either repolished or reveneered as necessary. Modern electric windows and central locking were then fitted.
The suspension was stripped and repainted, then fitted with new bushes and shock absorbers all round. The braking was overhauled with new brake pipes, pads, callipers and discs, also master cylinder and a new Lucas servo. New chrome wire wheels were fitted, and a power steering conversion was installed.
The 3.4 engine was rebuilt by specialists VSE, with a lightened and balanced flywheel, conrods and pistons. A ported head with bigger valves and NAD camshafts was fitted, as were 2 inch SU carburettors. To keep things cool a Kenlowe fan and new radiator were added.
To improve breathing a new stainless exhaust systems was fitted.
GAS 196 is a thoroughly prepared example which is described as being in excellent condition in all respects. Supplied with a current MoT certificate and documentation for the restoration work, this splendid classic saloon offers classic looks with performance that can be enjoyed every day.
