3.4L

VIN 150025

private Sale

Port Melbourne, VIC, Australia

This fully road-registered Jaguar MK2 is a handsome British sporting saloon, dating from the start of production of this iconic model.

The chassis number identifies that it was the 25th chassis built of the early MK2 release RHD 3.4L variant.

It is powered by the 3.4-litre straight-six, delivering 157kW to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.

This MK2 has been with the seller for the last 13 years, during which time it has been resprayed, extensively restored, fitted with hydraulic power steering, and many other replacement components, to achieve full road registration in July 2022.

Build year: 1959

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

Originally specified in Sherwood Green over Tan, the car is now finished in gloss black over a brown interior, complemented by a lacquered wood dashboard and trim pieces across the pillars and door cappings.

It rides on a set of black 15-inch wheels with a polished lip, polished Jaguar centre covers, and Retro tyres.

The cabin features Smiths gauges, a row of rocker switches, a wooden-rimmed steering wheel, opening front quarterlight windows, and early Mk2 variation including recessed sun-visors and gear-stick positioning .

Hydraulic power steering has been installed by Mike Roddy.

Accompanying the sale is the operating manual, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and various invoices.

CONDITION

The seller reports that the car underwent a bare-metal ‘engine-in’ respray 10 years ago, and minor dents and blemishes were attended to during this time.

Specific notes from the seller include: an area of worn paint on the boot lid, some worn and chipped areas at the base of the A-pillar timber veneer panels, stains, small areas of fabric fatigue and area of sagging on the headliner, two very small nicks – one on the driver’s seat and one on the rear bench.

The seller notes that the dashboard clock, radio and windscreen washer sprays are non-functional, but they are not aware of any further electrical or mechanical faults.

The most recent roadworthiness test was conducted in June 2022, resulting in a clean pass to attain its current unrestricted, non-Club, Victorian registration.

The last maintenance was performed in April 2024 at an indicated 21,346 miles by Mike Roddy Motors, which also included replacement of spark plugs, the LED indicator light bulbs being fitted, and the points and condenser being replaced.

Other work at this visit comprised setting up the voltage regulator, repairing the wiper motor, setting the timing, and replacing: the locking rims on the clock and trip meter cable, right-hand seat belt, voltage stabiliser, oil pressure sensor, temperature sensor, both rear shock absorbers, A-post wood cappings, spat rubber seals, crown wheel bearings, rear-view mirror, and door lock.

Other parts replaced and fitted during the seller’s 13-year ownership include the bush control arm and sway bars, uprated front and rear brakes, a BRG axle, tie-rods, brake booster brake pipes, tap heater, cowl fan, transmission pan gasket, solenoid, column horn contacts, silencer, rocker cover gasket, thermostat gasket, and top and bottom radiator hoses.

It has also received replacement Panhard rod bush, distributor cap, ignition coil, rotor arm, contact set, condenser, fuel flap, air flap panel, interior light switch, front windscreen, sound deadening, HT cables, door rubbers and seals, brake discs, automatic transmission filter, and various clips, window seals, door locks, assemblies, and handles.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
