Auction description:
Vintage Motor Cars At Meadow Brook Hall
5 August 2006
Lot 281
1962 Jaguar MK II 3.4 Liter Saloon
To be auctioned on Saturday, August 5, 2006
Sold for $26,400
Chassis no. 126683

The 1962 Jaguar Mark II 3.4 offered here is a European spec model that has been enjoyed by the same family for the last 19 years. During their ownership, mechanically the car has had a complete professional rebuild of the 3.4 liter engine, the transmission, the carburetor, starter, generator and the entire front suspension. The list of new parts includes a clutch, flywheel, and brakes, master cylinder, radiator and Coker red line radial tires.
Cosmetically the red interior, including the headliner, leather upholstery, wool carpets, seat belts, under felt and interior wood trim have all been restored. Externally the car was painted Old English ivory, all rubber seals were replaced, and all the chrome was either replated or replaced. The total cost of the cosmetic and mechanical restoration was in excess of $20,000.

With the 210 horsepower, 3.4 liter inline six-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive and power assisted four-wheel disc brakes this Jaguar is a true sports sedan - fast, fun and rewarding to drive.

Auction description:
Lot #11253
Seller: Rbmjrinc39
Location: Harbert, Michigan 49115
Chassis: 126683
85k Indicated Miles; TMU
3.4-Liter Inline-Six
Medatronics 5-speed Manual Gearbox
Old English White/Red Leather
New Ignition Parts in 2016
Records from 2006
Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate
Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

This 1962 Jaguar MK 2 is a left-hand drive example finished in Old English White over red leather and powered by a replacement 3.4-liter inline-six. Included receipts show installation of a Medatronics 5-speed manual gearbox in 2007, overhauls of the carburetors and alternator in 2009, several new ignition parts in 2016, and more. This Mark 2 has been with the seller for 12 years and is offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a clean Michigan title in the seller's name.

Sheet metal is finished in Old English White paint in place of its original Pearl Grey. Signs of age are detailed in close-up photos, and include finish cracking as well as rust on a passenger door. The seller states that the car has spent most of the last 12 years in a garage and was driven occasionally each summer during his ownership.

Chrome knock-off wire wheels are fitted with eared retaining nuts and Coker Classic tires dating from 2006. Receipts show replacement of several suspension parts including bushings and drop links in 2008.

A previous owner replaced the red leather upholstery, and a new steering wheel was fitted under in 2008. The dashboard toggle switches and all four dome lights reportedly work, while the seller states the radio and odometer do not. The latter is stuck at 85k miles, with the seller estimating 2,000 miles added since his purchase in 2006.

Power comes from a 3.4-liter straight-six in place of the original 2.4-liter unit indicated by the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate below. A description from a previous owner in the gallery states the engine was rebuilt prior to 2006. The carburetors and alternator were overhauled in 2009, while the ignition coil, points, wires, rotor, and distributor cap were replaced in 2016.

A Medatronics 5-speed transmission was installed by AAMCO Transmissions in 2006 at a cost of $10k according to the invoice below. A new clutch, shifter, and master and slave cylinders were installed as part of the service.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the original Pearl Grey exterior finish and 2.4-liter engine, also noting an initial distributor in Tokyo, Japan despite the car's left-hand drive configuration. Receipts from 2006 onward.
