Seller's description:
Price: $99,900 Make an Offer

1965 SUFFOLK ENGINEERING 1965 JAGUAR SS100 RECREATION for sale. Motorcar Classics is excited to present this bespoke recreation of Jaguars iconic 1937 SS100 Roadster. Roger Williams, the developer of Suffolk Sports Cars of Woodbridge, Suffolk, UK, has a long history with Jaguar Cars and his SS100 is widely recognized as an authentic replica of the SS100 and features many parts that are interchangeable with the original cars. The car is virtually indistinguishable from an original and benefits from being upgraded with modern Jaguar components on a robust custom-designed chassis. Our beautiful example is featured in classic British Racing Green on its fiberglass body panels with Tan leather trimming the cockpit. The engine-turned instrument panel and classic instruments lend a vintage feel to the cockpit. The car is fitted with a vintage 1965 Jaguar 4.2L DOHC XK engine built by VSE (Vintage Sports Engines of Powys, Wales) mated to a compact short throw Jaguar 4-Speed box with overdrive on top gear. This lightweight car has the power and torque of an E-Type with lighter weight for truly impressive performance. Each SS100 is built to the owners specifications and this car features a Moto-Lita wood steering wheel, Lucas QK596 head lamps, and a single Lucas Flame Thrower driving light. Not shown in the photos, but also included, are removable wings for the windscreen, and a pair of Brooklands Wind Screens. Suffolk is still actively in business with Rogers son, Fraser, active, meaning that support and spares will be readily available for years to come. Our car has full weather gear including a Black top and side curtains. The Suffolk SS100 sells for a small fraction of the original, but has become a desired collectible in its own right. This car will give its new owner great pleasure on the road and show field.

This Jaguar SS100 re-creation was built by Suffolk Sportcars of Woodbridge, England, and was first sold in the UK before it was imported to the US in October 2013. The car is finished in British Racing Green over a tan leather interior, and power comes from a 4.2-liter XK inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive. Features include a Lucas driving lamp and headlights, a folding windshield with Brooklands-style driving screens, an engine-turned aluminum dashboard, and an auxiliary electric cooling fan. The car was listed on BaT in December 2020 and was recently acquired by the selling dealer. This SS100 re-creation is now offered in New York at no reserve with a black mohair top, a tonneau cover, and a clean Connecticut title listing it as a 1965 Jaguar.

Suffolk Sportcars crafted fiberglass-bodied SS100 replicas utilizing the drivelines of Jaguar saloons for 20 years before ceasing production in 2020. This example is finished in British Racing Green and features Lucas QK596 headlights with stone guards, an aluminum hood, a Lucas Flamethrower driving lamp, a polished radiator surround, dual taillights with turn signals, and a chrome luggage rack. Scratches and stone chips are noted.

Chrome wire wheels with two-eared knock-off hubs are mounted with Blockley Special 5.50-18 bias-ply tires, and a spare wheel is mounted out back. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs mounted behind plates that give the appearance of drums.

The right-hand-drive cabin is trimmed in tan leather with green carpets.

Silver Smiths replica SS instrumentation includes a tachometer with a 4,500-rpm redline, an oil pressure gauge, a 120-mph speedometer, and readouts for fuel level, amperage, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 25k miles.

The 4.2-liter XK inline-six was sourced from a 1965 Jaguar and was reportedly rebuilt by VSE in the UK prior to installation by Suffolk Sportcars. Twin SU carburetors are mounted with Ram-Flo air cleaners. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Jaguar “short box” four-speed manual transmission with Laycock electric overdrive.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
