An original UK market car, BJW 478B was the subject of an extensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration from 1989 – 1992. Stripped to bare metal, its fundamentally sound bodyshell was repaired as necessary and treated to various new panels including door skins and Coombes style rear wheelarches. Fitted with wider than standard wire wheels (to enhance roadholding) its braking and suspension systems were rebuilt accordingly. Re-sprayed in Sherwood Green, a full-length sunroof and host of re-chromed parts completed the external renovation. Finished to an equally high standard, its interior was re-trimmed in tan hide with matching piped carpets. Returning to the road on April 30th 1992 with a zeroed odometer, BJW 478B had covered a mere 6,411 miles when the decision was taken in 1998 to upgrade it with a 3.8 litre unit (in place of the factory supplied 3.4). To better exploit its increased performance, power assisted rack and pinion steering was installed the following year together with a Kenlowe fan and Mocal oil cooler. Finally, a stainless steel exhaust was added last August. As impressive underneath as it is on top (a great testament to the longevity and quality of the workmanship involved), this sympathetically updated and beautifully presented manual with overdrive MKII has done just over 12,000 miles in the past thirteen years. Offered for sale with V5 registration document, history file (including invoices totalling circa £19,000, MOTs dating back to 1989 and detailed photos of the restoration), original jack / toolbox, MOT current until February 12th 2006 and historic class (free) road tax until January 31st 2006.
