Car to be at auction 12/15
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2015-11-28/car/ref-101-1961-jaguar-mk-ii-24- ...

Auction description:
Historics at Brooklands
Lot 321 - 1961 Jaguar Mk. II 2.4 litre
Registration 793 AJB
Chassis Number 110630DN
Engine Number BH3523-6
Odometer reading 29,982 miles
Estimate £15,000 - £18,000

This superb example was originally registered to Mr L.H. Odell of Windsor, Berkshire in February 1962 and has had four owners over its life, covering a mere 26,900 miles in that time. The current vendor purchased the Jaguar from Martin Jol with the intention of making it a present for his father. The car was taken to Jaguar restorer Lee Scott for recommissioning where it was pronounced to be a superb and very original example. The car was fitted with a new clutch, brakes and exhaust system while the underside was treated with Waxoyl. The interior underwent sympathetic refurbishment with the seats being renovated, the sound proofing in the doors replaced and the fitment of a new headlining. The metallic blue paintwork, although showing a few blemishes, was deemed to be too good and original to be resprayed and so retains its factory finish. The Jaguar was treated to a new set of chrome wire wheels and tyres at a cost of £3,500 and which look magnificent.

The car starts easily and settles down to a smooth idle. A blip of the throttle produces that wonderful sound that is peculiar to the Jaguar Mk. I and II saloons. We are informed that the car drives very well and is comfortable in modern traffic as it has the benefit of the original overdrive.

The Jaguar comes with an extensive history file which includes original handbooks, service book, manufacturer's warranty and a complete MoT history which shows the mileage to be genuine. There is a current V5 Registration Certificate and an MoT Test Certificate, valid until August 2016. Jaguar's iconic compact saloon has a deservedly huge following and this delightful example offers an inexpensive entry into classic Jaguar ownership.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
