Car to be at auction 1/25

angliacarauctions.co.uk/auctions/2683-25-Jan-2025/8901~4-1960-jaguar-mkii?

Auction description:

Sat 25th & Sun 26th January

1960 JAGUAR MKII

Estimate: £20,000 - £23,000

V5 present

MoT exempt

Chassis number: 100856

This Old English White 1960 Jaguar Mk2 dates from the first year of production and was originally supplied new to Australia, where it is believed it was involved in club racing at some point. It returned to the UK in 2001 having been restored and modified to Coombs spec. Further upgrades were then carried out in the UK. The current spec includes a balanced 4.3-litre Jaguar XK engine with triple Weber carburettors, straight port head, lightweight flywheel, six-branch manifold and big bore stainless steel exhaust, all adding up to around 250bhp. It also has power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, five-speed gearbox, updated disc brakes including XJ servo and pedal box, front and rear upgraded suspension with coil-over springs, Jaguar electric multi-adjustable front seats including lumbar support and 6.5in chrome wire wheels with 205/15 tyres including the spare. There's also an uprated radiator with electric Kenlowe fan, custom-built free-flow stainless steel exhaust, limited slip differential and halogen headlamps.

The Jaguar was UK-registered in August 2004 and has had six registered keepers since then. Its odometer shows 27,411 miles and its last MoT expired in May 2019 after having been tested the year before at an indicated 25,911 miles. However, as an historic vehicle, the Mk2 is now MoT-exempt. The vendor tells us that the car has been continually maintained to a high standard with specialists doing the ongoing maintenance. A recent recommissioning and servicing cost £7000. Paperwork includes the V5C (which still lists it as a 2.4-litre model and so will need to be changed), information sheets, brochure, owner's handbook, Olyslager motor manual and parts catalogues.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
