This 1967 Jaguar 420 was acquired by the seller in 1985 and has undergone various periods of refurbishment. Most recently, the interior was refreshed in 2011, the car was repainted in 2014, and braking and suspension components were refurbished in 2022. Power is provided by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and the car has power steering, disc brakes, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, blue leather upholstery, heated front seats, lap belts, interior wood trim, and a heater. This 420 is now offered with service records, spare wheels and parts, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.
The seller notes that the car was refinished in its current shade of blue in 2014, and bodywork was performed to the left front fender in the 1990s. Exterior details include quad headlights, vent windows, and a chrome grille, door handles, window surrounds, and wraparound bumpers with overriders. Areas of rust are reported, and there are dents on the rear bumper and on chrome trim above the right doors.
Wire-spoke 15″ wheels are mounted with 205/70 Laufenn G Fit AS tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted discs, with inboard rotors at the rear axle. The brake master cylinder was replaced in preparation for the sale, and components for the suspension and braking systems were refreshed between 2020 and 2022.
The cabin was refreshed in 2011, and blue leather covers the front seats and rear bench, the latter of which has a folding central armrest. The front seat bottoms have been equipped with heating functionality, and the walnut veneer trim has been refinished. Interior appointments include lap belts, a push-button AM/FM radio, a lockable glovebox, and a heater. The trunk light is a replacement, there is static in the radio reception, and the right directional does not self-cancel.
The two-spoke steering wheel has a bright semi-circular horn ring. Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a replacement tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature set alongside a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 17k miles, and the seller reports that approximately 180k miles have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The inset clock is missing from the tachometer, but the factory dash-mounted clock is present. An electric choke switch has been added, and a spare tachometer is included in the sale.
The 4.2-liter XK DOHC inline-six was factory equipped with two SU carburetors and was rated at 245 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque when new. A fabricated air cleaner has been fitted, and service since 2023 has involved refurbishing the fuel pump and replacing the left fuel sender and the thermostat. An aftermarket starter, distributor, and heater control valve are installed.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville overdrive.
Service records will accompany the car along with a service manual, various spare parts, and three spare wheels mounted with tires.
