This 1967 Jaguar 420 is a right-hand-drive example that was purchased by the seller as a non-running project circa 2010. The car had previously been refurbished in the mid-1990s, with work that included stripping and refinishing the body, installing a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six, and rebuilding the steering gearbox and the overdrive unit. The car is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, disc brakes, 15″ steel wheels, an aftermarket air-conditioning system, a Sony cassette radio, and walnut veneer trim. The car remains in non-running condition, having been in storage for the past 15 years. This 420 is now offered at no reserve with records and a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.
The car was reportedly stripped and repainted during a refurbishment carried out in the mid-1990s, though bubbling paint is now present and can be seen in the gallery below.
The 15″ steel wheels feature hubcaps and are mounted with Yokohama tires. The car has power-assisted disc brakes, with inboard rotors at the rear axle, and the steering gearbox was reconditioned in December 2002.
The right-hand-drive cabin houses front seats and a rear bench with a folding central armrest, all upholstered in red leather. Interior appointments include a Smiths analog clock, walnut veneer trim, lap belts, a lockable glovebox, a Sony cassette radio, and an aftermarket air-conditioning system. The seller recommends reupholstering the cabin.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a bright semi-circular horn ring. Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 25k miles, although the seller tells us that it has rolled over once.
The 4.2-liter XK DOHC inline-six is a replacement that was installed in the mid-1990s, per the seller, who purchased the car in non-running condition about 15 years ago. The engine has not been started or run under current ownership, though Marvel Mystery Oil has been added in the cylinders.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The car also has a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit that was rebuilt in January 2003.
