Ebay item 8/31/11
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-Jaguar-3-8S-Saloon-Rust-Free-Original-4-Spd-w-OD-/2 ...
Current bid $5,355 reserve not met, 4 bids 3 days left in auction. 68k miles.

Sellers description:
Remarkably original, completely rust free, mechanically excellent example of a 1966 Jaguar 3.8S Saloon.

We typically don't look to acquire cars for restoration, however when we came across this car and had the pleasure of taking it for a ride there was no doubt that we had to have it. We have never seen a more original, rust free, straight and solid S-Type, and with the desirable original 4-speed manual transmission and overdrive, it's the perfect car upon which to perform any degree of refurbishment or restoration. Whether just doing some interior work and enjoying the car as a strong driver or going through the car completely (as was our intention), it's arguably the best platform for a vintage Jaguar saloon restoration on the market. Unfortunately we have too many current projects and figured we'd make the car available to an enthusiast that would give it the attention it deserves, but if there aren't any takers, we'll start the arduous but fulfilling restoration process in a couple of months.

The car's exterior paint is largely original, the previous owner having sprayed only the front fenders and roof many years ago. Without any evidence of accidents or body work, the car is extremely straight, all of the panel fits and gaps remaining uniform and original. The brightwork is in incredible original condition, the glass is flawless and the original wheels and hubs are in good shape. As the pictures show, the car's interior is completely original. The black leather seats have split and the wood lost its luster years ago, but the interior paneling and carpets are in very presentable condition. The trunk is original, complete with vinyl cover, tool kit and spare tire.

The prior owner was an aircraft mechanic and he always kept the car in tip-top mechanical condition, garaged and in a dry environment. As such, the car's undercarriage is completely original and rust free - something nearly unheard of in '60s Jaguars. The engine starts without any hesitation, idling smoothly, quietly and consistently. With what's believed to be 68k original miles, the 3.8L engine roars like any Big Cat should, pulling strongly through and smoothly through all of its gears. The overdrive works without fault and all of the lights and gauges are functional. Even in its original condition, this stately car demands attention and is an absolute joy to drive, performing with both grace and force.

Current bid: $1,025 reserve not met 5 bids 4 days left in auction seller laledoll buy it now price $24,550, car now said to be in Avondale, Pennsylvania, 1 mile reported.

Sellerr's description:
This 1966 Jaguar S-Type has been with the seller three years and was repainted Silver Grey Metallic in 2010. The leather interior was reupholstered soon after the repaint. Power comes from a 3.8-liter dual overhead-cam inline-six paired to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Recent service includes a complete tune up and electronic ignition conversion. This S-Type is sold with service receipts dating back to 2012, a factory tool kit, and a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller's name. Originally finished in Golden Sand Metallic, the body was repainted in Silver Grey Metallic (701). The seller mentions that the older repaint presents well with only minor imperfections that are difficult to photograph. All trim and badging appear complete and brightwork is said to show well but the bumpers are original and show some signs of rust pitting. Disc wheels wear correct wheel covers and white stripe radial tires. The interior is largely un-restored with the exception of the seats which have been reupholstered in the correct leather. Original wood trim appears to be in good condition, but the carpets and door seals show age related wear. All gauges and controls are said to work, and the odometer currently shows 69k miles.Power comes from a numbers-matching 3.8-liter DOHC which is coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Recent work includes a tune-up with an upgrade to an electronic ignition. The seller notes that the sway bar bushings need to be replaced, and the clutch releases with minimal depression of the pedal and will require replacement soon. The trunk still retains the factory supplied liner along with the original jack and a complete tool kit. Not much is known of the the car's early history but the seller can provide records and receipts dating back to 2012.
