Car was at auction in '06

RM Auctions, Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Florida, March 11, 2006

www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm

Auction description:

Vintage Motor Cars at Amelia Island

11 March 2006

Lot 132

1966 Jaguar MK II 3.8 Saloon

To be auctioned on Saturday, March 11, 2006

Sold for $53,900

Chassis no. 224449DN

The example presented here was the subject of a comprehensive restoration just a few years ago and since then has been used sparingly and always maintained. The panel fit and white exterior finish are both quite excellent. All brightwork was restored or replaced as needed and still today looks very good. The chromed wire wheels are in excellent shape, and notably, in 1966 were quite an expensive option as buyers on a budget were forced to settle for steel wheels with either trim rings or hubcaps. The red leather interior with beautiful wood trim provides wonderful contrast against the white exterior paint - a combination that exemplifies 1960s luxury. Mechanically, this example is strong and the owner reports putting the car in for a comprehensive inspection just prior to auction. With the potent 3.8 engine and a nice restoration, this example is ready for any Jaguar event and long high-speed tours.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
