First registered in November 1965, this 3.4 manual overdrive has the desirable factory option of power steering and comes with an extensive history file showing regular maintenance over the last dozen years or so, old MOTs showing that it has been in frequent use, covering some 27,000 miles since 2003. Earlier this year it was treated to a full service and the carburettors were overhauled, balanced and tuned by Circuit Motorsport of Castle Combe. Uprated 3-pot brake callipers have also ben fitted at some point.

The car comes with a useful quantity of spares assembled over the years including: two spare wire wheels; clutch assembly; head gasket set; exhaust brackets; brake pads (front, rear, handbrake); inner tubes; 12-bladed fan; electronic ignition conversion kit; various suspension bushes etc. A workshop manual is also included.

Finished in dark blue with a navy hide interior, it rides on chrome wire wheels and has Coombs rear spats for a more sporting look. Said to run and drive well with an MOT until October 2017 with no advisories recorded, this handsome sports saloon is ready for a new owner to enjoy right away.

KEY FACTS

A well-preserved example of the classic sports saloon, in a desirable specification, and benefiting from a very recent service.

It is powered by the 3.4-litre Jaguar XK6 straight-six engine, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox with original overdrive.

The car has benefited from regular maintenance since 2005, though has only covered around 700 miles over the last five years.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

This MkII is now finished in period-correct Indigo Blue with dark blue leather upholstery. While the body colour is believed to have been changed, the appearance of the leather seat covers suggests they are mostly original.

It features stainless steel sill plates, wire wheels and factory power steering, along with a Moto-Lita steering wheel and wood veneers in the cabin.

Its original owner’s manual, toolkit and steering wheel will be included, along with a raft of maintenance invoices.

CONDITION

There is no known bodywork damage.

Its Indigo Blue paintwork is in good condition, though the vendor has reported a number of minor blemishes. There are some small paint blisters at the bottom of the doors, along with some peeling on the nearside front sidelight housing, a blemish on the offside front wing, and a scuff to the offside rear.

Some similar small blisters can be seen on the offside of the front bumper support, and a small chip is visible in the chrome bumper trim.

Inside, the leather has a time-earned ‘patina’ from age. There is a split in the driver’s backrest, and various creasing and surface cracks throughout, but it is eminently usable as-is. The rear seat cushion appears to have been partially repaired.

The interior wood trim pieces have been replaced with newly veneered items from Classical Dash Ltd.

The analogue clock, the glovebox lamp and one of the cabin lights are currently inoperative, but there are no other known faults.

The most recent MOT test was on 23 July 2021 at 81,543 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

Its most recent service was in September 2021 at 81,543 miles, where technicians at Project Shop Ltd in Bicester replaced the engine oil, filters, coolant, gearbox oil, brake fluid, rear axle oil, clutch, windscreen washer pump, the power steering pipework and fluid, and the front end of the wiring harness.

The ignition components were serviced, and the horn, lights and overdrive system were repaired. New ethanol-proof fuel lines were also installed.

The suspension system was completely removed, allowing for the fitment of all new bushes, joints, suspension links and mounts. The suspension, axle and front subframe were also media blasted and painted.

A previous service took place in July 2018 at Birks Motorworks Ltd in Oxfordshire, comprising of new engine oil and filter, and attention to the rear brakes including the fitment of copper lines.

New front fog ranger lamps have been fitted during the vendor’s ownership, along with a reconditioned brake servo and slave cylinder.

SUMMARY

This Jaguar MkII is a good example of the iconic 1960s sports saloon, which has been little use in recent years, but which has been kept in sound mechanical condition. It is now ready to stretch its legs on the open road again, and could be the ideal companion for taking to various car shows and events.

A well-preserved example of Jaguar’s handsome sporting saloon, recently serviced at 81,752 miles. 

It is powered by a 3.4-litre Jaguar XK6 straight-six, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox with original overdrive.  

The car is believed to have had 10 owners, and the odometer indicates 81,962 miles.  

This MkII is finished in Indigo Blue over a blue leather-trimmed cabin with burr walnut inlays.  

It rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels with twin-eared chrome knock-offs. 

The cabin features Smiths dials, a row of rocker switches for many of the main functions, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, opening front quarterlights, a Motorola radio, and fold-down rear trays.  

Accompanying the sale is the owner’s manual, various invoices and historic tax discs, toolkit, and a car cover.   

CONDITION  

Specific notes from the seller include: small blisters at the bottom of the doors, peeling on the nearside front sidelight housing, a blemish on the offside front wing, a scuff on the offside rear, small blisters on the offside of the front bumper support, a chip in the chrome bumper trim, a split in the driver’s backrest, and various creasing and surface cracks across the upholstery.   

The rear seat cushion has been repaired, and the interior wood trim pieces have been replaced with newly veneered items from Classical Dash Ltd.

Due to its age, the vehicle is exempt from mandatory MOT testing. However, the most recent MOT test was conducted on 17 August 2022 at 81,755 miles, when the car passed on its second attempt with advisories for a possible fuel leak from the rear carburettor float bowl, a blow from the exhaust box, and cracking on the offside and nearside inner and outer track rod end gaiters.  

The car was last serviced at 81,752 miles by Land Rover specialist Langley 4x4, who refit the track rod end nuts, unblocked the washer jets, investigated a brake fault, bled the brakes, and replaced the battery, brake fluid, and rear numberplate bulbs. The headlamps were also replaced with halogen units.  

Prior to this, Classic Project Shop in Bicester carried out a service in 2021, which included replacing the engine oil, filters, coolant, gearbox oil, brake fluid, rear axle oil, clutch, windscreen washer pump, the power steering pipework and fluid, and the front end of the wiring harness.
